The Northern Ireland Squirrel Association is a stand-alone organisation which is a feeder organisation to the Scout Movement in Northern Ireland. The Northern Ireland Squirrel Association became affiliated to the Northern Ireland Scout Council in January 2009.
Both organisations have similar objectives and strategic plans to achieve their aims but they are two separate charities each having their own trustee board, management committees and leadership and are structured to work as two separate organisations.
The Northern Ireland Scout Council staff and Commissioners provide administrative and practical support to the Leaders within the Squirrel Dreys around Northern Ireland.
The Northern Ireland Squirrel Association’s membership is limited to young people aged four and five years of age living in Northern Ireland. Squirrels have their own uniform and badge system. All matters of programme training and administration are handled in Northern Ireland by the Northern Ireland Squirrel Association.
The Squirrel Association has its own policies and all leaders are subject to vetting through AccessNI. Policies include Child Protection Policy, Safety Policy, Religious Policy and Equal Opportunities Policy.
NB. Squirrel Association members do not wear the Scout Membership or any other Scout badges as they are not members of the Scout Association.
There are 12 Squirrel Dreys in our District. Why not log on and see which one suits your child!
